Second RC aircraft festival at Katara from Thursday

DOHA: The second edition of RC festival will launch on Thursday evening at the Cultural Village Foundation — Katara and will continue for three days, said Sheikh Mohamed bin Fahad Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar RC Sport Center, the festival organisers.
“The festival is considered the first of its kind in Qatar and the Middle East region for the latest models of RC aircraft which come in different sizes. It will also show the latest models of RC aircraft made in Qatar,”.
The festival, which will take place at Katara Beach, will include competitions and cultural and entertainment events for children and families to raise awareness on this type of sport.
The festival is organised under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali and Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor H E Sheikh Abdulla bin Saoud Al Thani. A number of officials from different government entities will be attending the event.

The chairman said that the second edition of the festival comes after the success last year’s festival organized by Qatar RC Sport Center at Dahl Al Hammam park. This success has encouraged them to hold more similar events and to choose a bigger venue to allow more people to attend, he said.
He pointed out that the festival aims to achieve a number of goals, the most important of which is to show Qatar’s efforts in this field whether with regard to well trained RC aircraft operators or to manufacturing as the country has a lot of achievements on the ground valued by many countries that are ahead in this field.
The festival also aims to spread awareness about this hobby and its importance and attract many RC aircraft hobbyists to practice it well without any violations of the law.
Under the slogan “Made in Qatar” we will display the latest types of locally produced RC aircraft. These RC aircraft were designed and manufactured in Qatar and was admired and appreciated by the world when participating in international events, he added.
The Chairman also revealed a surprise at the festival which is a display the biggest balloon in the form of Qatari flag ‘Al Adaam’ and Tamim Al Majd’ icon carrying a message of peace for the whole world and emphasizes the values of loyalty to Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
