Doha, Qatar: Celebrations and fireworks were seen as two Red Cross buses carrying 90 released Palestinian prisoners arrived in occupied West Bank town of Beitunia.

Palestinians crowded around the bus and unfurled Palestinian national flag and Hamas flag, reported the AFP.

Inside the bus, some of the released Palestinian female prisoners could be seen smiling and flashing the V for victory signs.

The 90 prisoners released early on Monday morning – all women and children – are the first of what is expected to be more than 1,000 Palestinians freed under the terms in the first phase of the ceasefire deal, and in exchange for 33 Israeli captives held in Gaza.

More than 230 of the Palestinian prisoners who will be freed under the agreement are expected to be exiled by Israel immediately upon their release, AFP reports.

Red Crescent erects makeshift shelters for Gaza people

The Palestine Red Crescent Society is building temporary shelters throughout the Gaza Strip as aid slowly makes its way into the war-battered territory.

“So far, the Palestine Red Crescent has established almost 30 shelters for internally displaced families. We’re talking about almost 70 percent of homes that have been damaged so people need proper shelter,” spokeswoman Nebal Farsakh told Al Jazeera.

“That’s why a ceasefire comes at a very critical moment. We still have a lot to do in order to prevent further losses.”

Apart from the incessant bombardment, the displaced Palestinians have endured weeks of cold winter weather and freezing rain.
