Seoul: The number of tourists to South Korea fell by 23.5 percent to 9.94 million tourists from January to September this year, affected by the shrinking of the numbers of Chinese tourists.
According to a report by the Central Bank of Korea issued today, Chinese tourist visits have decreased more than 60 percent on an annual basis as a result of China imposing restrictions on mass tourism programs to South Korea over a dispute over the deployment of the US missile defense system in the country.
Foreign tourists spent USD 8.8 billion between January and August, down 23.6 percent from the same period last year, the report said. (QNA)
