Organisations urged to spread traffic awareness

DOHA: Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of the Traffic Department, has called on all organisations, entities, and individuals to collaborate more with the Traffic Department to spread traffic awareness among the community.
Addressing a workshop on  Effective Actions for Accident Prevention, Al Kharji there are many preventive actions to achieve traffic safety and accident prevention, nationally and internationally. 
Atop these actions, comes the collaboration between organisations and both governmental and private entities to raise the traffic awareness among drivers and pedestrians of their staff. 
He said deaths due to traffic accidents in Qatar has became below the international rate thanks to the collaboration and cooperation between all organisations.  
Of course, there are still some violations resulting in traffic accidents, which required to intensify the awareness campaigns for drivers, pedestrians and also for schools students as they are the future drivers. That has been made through organising traffic lectures, seminars, and events; besides participating in the major events in the state.
Such efforts are in addition to enforcing law and sending awareness messages, also by utilising modern traffic methods that ensure road safety and intensify road patrols. The workshop was held by the Ministry of Transport  in collaboration with IRU Academy. 
Khalid Nassir Al Hail, Mowaslat CEO, in the opening speech  said that road accidents come with dear cost and lead to complicated security problems. 
“So we have to work together on these measures to prevent accidents, also to work on their application and raise the traffic awareness. We should also make the community familiar with the role of laws, regulations, and policies that to be enforced in order to protect the national economy from the high cost impact of   accidents,” said Al Hail.
The workshop discussed the measures and policies to reduce number of Qatar road accidents, and the creative legislations to support commitments to UN Decade of Actions on Road Safety, as well as the Qatar traffic law to be implemented  to reduce road accidents. 
Patrick Philip, Head of IRU Academy stressed the importance of the continuing communication between the competent entities to set up plans and programmes to ensure the success of the actions taken to minimise road accidents. He also mentioning that the IRU Academy work on achieving the sustainable development and ease road transport all over the world.  
He said that 85 percent of accidents happen due to human factor and this needs to be addressed and mitigated.
The workshop opened with a lecture by Capt. Fahad Mubarak Dhreeda, from Traffic Department, on Qatar national policies and innovative legislation to support commitments to UN Decade of Actions on Road Safety.
