Doha, Qatar: Qatar has placed environmental protection as one of the four pillars of its National Vision 2030 and made it a national responsibility for all sectors, especially in areas closely related to the environment and climate change, such as civil aviation, said Essa Abdulla Al Malki, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Al Malki elaborated achievements and contribution of the country's civil aviation sector, in a recent magazine issued by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCCA). “The Permanent Mission has been able to achieve a quantum leap in a number of aspects of civil aviation. The most important of which is the ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program, where the Permanent Mission has harnessed all possible guidance and coordination resources to contribute to achieving a state. Qatar achieved outstanding results in a comprehensive ICAO civil aviation safety audit, demonstrating Qatar’s compliance with all aspects of civil aviation safety.

The official added that the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the ICAO has worked over the past years to strengthen its close and continuous cooperation with the organisation and to support the foreign policy of Qatar as an effective partner in the international civil aviation community.

“We are among the most committed member states within the organisation and implementation of the international strategic vision and goals for the aviation sector that is characterised by security and safety and is more environmentally conscious with air transport services that conform in their systems to international standards and keep pace with their operations with the latest technologies in this sector.”

Qatar has been keen to provide training programmes on the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Plan for International Aviation (CORSIA).
