Doha, Qatar: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara has announced the launch of cultural activities related to Arabic calligraphy, within the framework of an annual programme that includes a series of training courses, practical workshops, exhibitions and artistic forums.
Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti explained that the activities of Katara Arabic Calligraphy aim to preserve Arabic calligraphy and the Islamic arts, as one of the most prominent elements of the Arab and Islamic identity and promote it in Qatar and all over the world.
He added that Katara will devote its role as a hub of Arabic calligraphy and spread its culture among young people, indicating that the cultural village will work to strengthen the global presence of Arabic calligraphy and highlight the cultural meanings it carries and broadcast its splendor and civilisational message after it was included in the UNESCO world heritage list, by launching a long-term work programmes, including training courses, practical workshops, forums, art exhibitions, specialized studies and media publications.
“Katara will launch very soon its annual programme, which includes a group of practical workshops and training courses in Arabic calligraphy arts and its various types and methods, according to the technical levels and target groups.”
He noted that Katara will also launch advanced courses and professional workshops in cooperation with specialised international organisations presented by a group of famous calligraphers in the Islamic and Arab world, as Katara will issue accredited certificate in Arabic calligraphy that allows them to become professional, pointing out that the programme provides opportunity to learn and train in Arabic calligraphy arts, such Islamic floral ornamentation, and decorating Arabic calligraphy paintings using different materials ceramics, glass, wood, cloth and other materials.
"Katara will hold Arabic calligraphy exhibitions with a selections of distinguished paintings of the participants in various Arabic calligraphy courses, as they will be nominated and selected by a special jury," Prof. Dr. Al Sulaiti added.
