Al Jeryan Stud-owned Karakoul under jockey Szczepan Mazur yesterday registered an emphatic five-and-a-half length victory to clinch the Wadi Al Sail Cup at Al Uqda Equestrian Complex.

The four-year-old gelding, trained by MHK Al Attiyah, made the feature triumph look easy after a surge in the final bend to win the 1200m Thoroughbred Premium Maidens with ease.

JP Guillambert rode Burscough to second place followed by Observing, which was steered by Marco Casamento with the winners collecting trophies from Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) Racing Manager Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi.

The commanding victory in the feature by Karakoul during QREC’s (QREC) 11th Al Uqda Meeting also completed a double for Al Jeryan Stud, trainer MHK Al Attiyah and Mazur.

The trio claimed first title of the day when AJS Anayid raced to a head win over Ghazwah in 1300m Maiden for 4YO Purebred Arabians.

After an outstanding show last week, the duo of trainer Gassim Ghazali and jockey Casamento also completed a double when Injaaz Stud’s Cotai Pearl stormed to a three-length win in the 1300m Novice for 3YO+ Thoroughbred Fillies and Mares.

The pair also collected victory in day’s opening race when Meshaal bin Ali Al Attiyah’s Al Mustashar emerged winner in the 1300m Maiden for 3-6YO Local Thoroughbreds.

Meanwhile, Soufiane Saadi steered Injaaz Stud’s Mubadir to a one-and-a-half-length win in the 1300m Handicap (75-95) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians in penultimate race of the day.

The seven-race meeting also saw Wathnan Racing’s Neat And Dandy claiming the Handicap (0-80) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds title after winning the 1300m race by a length and three quarters. Ronan Thomas rode the Alban de Mieulle-trained four-year-old gelding.

Also yesterday, Khalifa bin Mohamed Al Attiyah’s Almirgab, which had Hugo Besnier in the saddle, was fastest in the Handicap (0-85) for 3YO Thoroughbreds winning the 2000m race by 1¼ length.

Action will resume at Al Uqda Equestrian Complex on Wednesday for the 12th Al Uqda Meeting which will also feature the Al Jumail Cup showdown.
