Al Saaq grabs top honours as QR1m Hathab series continues

Mohammed Taleb Al Saaq, astride Diamond Delemma completed a flawless routine to secure the top prize in the feature event of the day as the second round of the QR1m Hathab showjumping series kicked off at the state-of-the-art Al Shaqab Arena yesterday.

Completing his round in 68.56 seconds in the 115/125cm (Art 238.2.1) event, Al Saaq bagged prize money worth QR3,750 in yesterday’s round.

The jubilant rider, Saaq said that competing in Hathab is very helpful for riders who will be taking part in international competitions and he was delighted to have won yesterday.

“Hathab is one of the great national competitions and it prepares us for international championships. I am really honoured to win here as the competitions were strong, and to compete against top national riders was tough. But I made it with the support of my team,” Saaq said.

Saeed Nasser Al Qadi, guiding Daydreamer EC to another flawless routine, completed the task in 71.83 seconds to secure the second place which earned him QR3,000 in prize money.

The winner of the feature event in the previous round which was held two weeks ago, Hamad Nasser Al Qadi was placed third in yesterday’s competition after finishing his round in 73.12 seconds.

This time, he chose What A Pleasure over of his 12-year-old gelding SIEC Lonnie who helped him grab the top spot in the first round of the 12-leg series.

Despite missing the top prize yesterday, Hamad Al Qadi was positive ahead of today’s competition.

“I’m very thrilled for tomorrow as you know we will be competing for the grand prize. The competition is strong and I’m Very glad to be among the top three,” he said yesterday.

Earlier, in the Small Tour - Special two phases, 100/115cm event, Mohammed Khalid Al Qashouti guided Golden over the obstacles as they made no mistakes on their way to win the event with a time of 40.51 seconds at the same venue.

Qashoti won QR2,500 in prize money for his winning performance while Hamad Nasser Al Qadi, astride his 11-year old mare Belucci Van ‘T Vleminkhof’, clocked 41.30 seconds to finish second in the final standings. He bagged a cheque worth QR2,000. Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi, astride Fudine, finished the round in 41.97 seconds to round up the podium and won QR1,500 in prize money.

Today, the riders will take the field on the final day of round two of the series which is organised by Al Shaqab and Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF).
