First Sport Engineering conference opens at QNCC

Qatar International Sport Engineering Conference and Exhibition, the first of its kind in the Middle East kicked off yesterday at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) which will run until March 29.

Ministry of Sports and Youth Director of Asset and Projects Department, Eng. Abdulrahman Al Malki led the opening of the event along with other officials where they toured around the exhibit. Organised by the Qatar Society of Engineers (QSE), the event highlights engineering sciences and their impacts on the development in the field of sport.

QSE Chairman Khaled bin Ahmed Mubarak Al Nasr said the first-ever Sport Engineering event will touch on important issues such as Artificial Intelligence in sports and its benefits to athletes, and discuss sports from an engineering perspective.

The chairman moreover revealed the Qatar International Sport Engineering Conference and Exhibition has five key important topics that will be discussed on, this include Design and Implementation of Sports Facilities and Buildings – including the stadiums which will be used for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Also, Engineering and Sports Equipment and tools, Engineering in the Development of Athletic Skills and Performance, Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Sport Engineering, and Paralympic Sport.

This event will focus on providing a deeper and more comprehensive knowledge, especially among sports experts, and highlighting the importance of sports engineering and its various applications. QSE has also planned to do the event annually.

The three-day event offers a wide range of discussions that are open to the public. Speakers include from universities, government and sports entities such as the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Olympic Committee, Aspetar, Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and Texas A&M University in Qatar, to name a few. Interested individuals who wish to attend the conference must register at the QSE website.

The first day of the conference discussed topics on Sport Mega-events impact and legacies – research challenges and opportunities; Sports Engineering role in securing maximum performance for athletes: Tokyo Olympics 2020; AI in Sports: Fields of application; Qatar Sport Facilities: Innovation and adapting to variables; and Rapid Manufacturing and Sports Engineering.

Today, among the topics that will be discussed is 'Women in the forefront: Role of Women in Qatar Sports Industry' wherein speakers include Head of Women Olympic Committee, Lolwa Al Murri, Swimming Champion Mohamed Wafa, Supreme Committee Al Thumama Stadium Project Management Eng. Aisha Al Mullah, and Shot Put Olympic Champion Sara Hamdy Masoud will deliver the talk on the said topic.

Also included on the day two conference are Role of Education in Building Capacity in the Sport Industry of Qatar, Hosting a Sport Mega-Event: Tools and Keys to a Successful Management, E-Sports: A Rising International Digital Culture Redefining Sports, and Adaptive Sports: Challenges and Impact on the Quality of Life for the Differently Abled Communities.

The exhibition opens at 12pm while the day two conference starts at 2pm, and day three, at 1.45pm. Each topic discussion will run from 45 minutes to an hour.
