Doha, Qatar: The next Earthna Summit, in its second edition, remains dedicated to addressing sustainability challenges prevalent in countries with hot and arid climates.
At the summit, the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, a member of the Qatar Foundation, will spotlight its continuous research and comprehensive efforts in advancing sustainability.
The next Earthna Summit is planned for early 2025, said Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of Earthna.
“The second edition aims to continue fostering vital dialogues and discussions on sustainability in hot and arid environments, bringing together global experts, academics, and governmental representatives,” he told The Peninsula.
The inaugural Earthna Summit in March 2023 brought together leaders, academics, and experts to discuss and address pressing issues including biodiversity, water and food security, and sustainability as a whole. With over 1,500 participants from over 100 countries, the Summit facilitated the exchange of ideas, strategies, and commitments to advance sustainability on a global scale.
The carbon-neutral event brought together local, regional and international policymakers, thought leaders, academics, and businesses to discuss topics around how to create new sustainability frameworks; food security, adaptation and resilience; climate and energy; and biodiversity, ecosystems and indigenous knowledge.
Earthna Summit 2023 under the theme ‘Building New Sustainability Pathways for Hot and Arid Environments’ renewed the focus on examining ancestral solutions to climate challenges and how these may support current plans for advancing sustainability.
In 2024, the ongoing research efforts will be a focal point, particularly in the areas of biodiversity, sustainability frameworks, traditional knowledge and cultural heritage, water management, and food security.
“Throughout the year, Earthna plans to release comprehensive reports on various topics, contributing valuable insights into these fields, with a focus on policy recommendations. These reports will not only serve as informative resources but also foster a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between ecosystems, human activities, and sustainable practices,” said Dr. Mata.
Earthna Centre will continue its collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, as well as other key stakeholders, and host the Qatar Sustainability Week and the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change in 2024. It will also actively engage with the community, stakeholders, experts, and academics across various sectors.
