Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has said that Qatar’s foreign policy is distinguished by its cooperative efforts and its pursuit of constructive dialogue over conflict and war, principles which illustrate Qatar as a fair mediator, a reliable partner, and a prominent figure in the pursuit of peace and fight against terrorism.
On the occasion of speech of H H the Amir at the inauguration of the elected Shura Council yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister said: “I would like to congratulate H H the Amir for the inauguration of the first meeting of the elected Shura Council. I wish all the members the best of luck in their upcoming responsibilities, and look forward to working with them towards the betterment of Qatar.”
In a Twitter thread, he further said: “I would like to recall, on this occasion, H H’s statements regarding Qatar’s foreign policy and its role in shaping the country’s international stature, including its contributions to the global pursuit of stability and prosperity, despite the existence of barriers and challenges.”
He said Qatar will continue striving towards the attainment of international peace, coexistence, and the protection of human rights and dignities — elements that are highly prioritised within the country’s foreign policy.
“H H also highlighted the importance of collaborating with members of the GCC, whom we share social, historical, and geographic bonds with, emphasising Qatar’s willingness to overcome internal conflicts through dialogue, and its strive to commit to the Al-Ula Summit agreement,” the Deputy Prime Minister wrote.
He said it was important to note that “our humanitarian principles and Islamic and Arab identity constitute the core of our foreign policy and serve as our motivation to continue to strive towards peace and development.
“In addition to this, Qatar’s investments abroad and its efforts to diversify its economy are both key principles of its foreign policy, developed with the aim of benefitting the country’s future generations.”
The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by saying: “We are commencing a new chapter in the development of our nation, pioneered by our country’s wise citizens and leadership, while bearing the weight of serving our nation, and the honour of achieving its vision through sincerity and perseverance.”
