Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani led the activities held yesterday to mark Qatar Environment Day 2022 under a slogan ‘Our Environment Our Responsibility’.
H E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed released birds and planted wild trees at Barouq Reserve under ongoing environment projects of the Ministry to increase the greenery and preserve biodiversity for addressing the climate change.
In a message posted on social networking sites of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Minister urged citizens and residents to adopt eco-friendly practices to preserve the environment.
“The laws alone are not enough to preserve the environment as the members of the community will have to play a bigger role in this regard. This is why Qatar Environment Day 2022 is being celebrated under a slogan ‘Our Environment Our Responsibility’ because we all are responsible to preserve the environment,” said the Minister.
He said that the slogan aims at connecting environment with community because preserving environment is an integral part of Qatar tradition and social responsibility as well preserving the resources and eco-system.
Public and private institutions and environmental activists also joined the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to mark the day by participating and organising activities and events to protect the environment.
The activities which aim at educating people especially school students about the importance of preserving environment started a couple days ago.
On the occasion, the Ministry organised a lecture titled ‘Our Environment Our Responsibility’ at Zikrit Primary School for Girls to educate students about the efforts including laws and regulations made by Qatar to protect the environment and ensure sustainability.
Also exhibitions and workshops were held at a number of schools to influence behavour of students towards eco-friendly practices to preserve the environment. Qatar Scouts and Guides Association and Friends of the Environment Center played active roles in organising the events in coordination with the Ministry such as releasing Reem deer and tree plantation drives at Sealine Reserve.
Qatar Environment Day is being marked under the framework of implementing fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision (2030) to achieve sustainable environmental development goals.
The day reminds the importance of preserving eco-system of the country including marine life, wildlife, greenery, meadows and natural reserves and to protect the rare plants and animal species from extinction.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change with a number of entities concerned is celebrating this day to demonstrate its plans and projects to preserve the environment such as green buildings, ‘Plant Million Tree’ initiative and other efforts to rehabilitate meadows and landscapes.
The initiatives and projects of the Ministry aim at enabling Qatar to achieve its environmental sustainable development goals and ensure a healthy life for citizens and expatriates and coming generations.
