DOHA: The horses of Al Shaqab, Member of Qatar Foundation, grabbed the spotlight at the Purebred Arabian Horse Show at Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Arabian Horse Festival 2013 that concluded in Saudi Arabia.
Al Shaqab achieved three titles and gold medals from the total of six titles that were distributed on the final day.
The champions who brought honours to Al Shaqab were Ghalib Al Shaqab who was the Champion One-Year-Old Colt, Zenat Al Shaqab who was awarded Champion Yearling Filly, and Ghasham Al Shaqab Champion 2-3 Year Old Colt.
The winners were awarded with gold medals amidst festive celebrations of the Al Shaqab team.
The final day of the event witnessed the finals for six categories of different age groups for the best horses based on the results throughout the event.
Al Shaqab’s dominance in the event reflected the advancement of Al Shaqab’s horses and the excellence of breeding inside Al Shaqab, considering that most of the horses that participated in the tournament and achieved gold medals were the offspring of former world champion Kaheel Al Shaqab.
This was the first participation of Kaheel Al Shaqab’s offspring in international events.
Al Shaqab had won in various categories before reaching the finals on Friday, which brought together the champions or different categories in the event.
Al Shaqab Breeding and Show Manager Mohammed Al Sulaiti expressed his pleasure on the team’s success.
“Our achievement of three gold medals proves the excellence of Al Shaqab’s horses and the production quality, which is shown in the achievement of multiple gold medals by the offspring of former world champion Kaheel Al Shaqab,” Al Suliati said.
“Also Al Shaqab did not participate in all categories, and the achievement of three gold medals out of the four in which we participated proves that Al Shaqab is the best currently in the global level. This is testified by all participants from the various countries, as they acknowledge that the breeding of Al Shaqab is the best in the world.
“Therefore, our aim in each tournament shall be to display the quality and beauty of production in Al Shaqab, and we choose the horses for all international tournaments that we participate in from this perspective.”
Teams from different countries had participated in the tournament, including Qatar, KSA, UAE, Poland, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Brazil. The remaining gold medals in the event were shared by the studs and breeding farms from Dubai and Ajman in the UAE and Riyadh, KSA.
The Emir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani founded Al Shaqab in 1992 to preserve and further develop the Arabian horse in Qatar.
Al Shaqab is led by H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and encompasses an endurance team, a breeding and show division, and a riding academy.
In 2004, Al Shaqab became a member of Qatar Foundation.
