Kahramaa officials at Al Janoub Stadium's district cooling plant.
Doha: The District Cooling Services Department of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) represented by Eng. Abdul Aziz Al Hammadi, Director of the Department, and a number of engineers visited district cooling (DC) plant of Al Janoub Stadium yesterday.
The district cooling plant was designed in an environmentally-friendly manner, which raised the efficiency of cooling inside the Stadium.
Al Janoub Stadium uses district cooling technology to cool the stadium through a central cooling plant with a cooling capacity of 20,000 tonnes, which distributes the chilled water to a number of heat exchangers, which in turn supply the distributed air treatment units in Stadium to ensure the required temperature for the fan stands and the stadium floor.
The cooling capacity of the plant is 20,000 tonnes, and it works through technologies that combine the use of chilled water with air treatment through heat exchange to cool the stadium and the areas surrounding the stadium.
It is one of the most efficient environmentally friendly and energy-saving systems, as it saves about 40% of electricity consumption and 98% of drinking water consumption compared to traditional cooling solutions that support the sustainability of water resources.
The is part of Kahramaa’s water conservation drive to enhance water security in the country by switching to the use of treated wastewater instead of using potable water in all district cooling plants, which is considered the best sustainable system in the region.
The cooling plant equipped with the latest equipment and intelligent monitoring and control systems provides the highest levels of energy performance through the use of treated water for cooling.
It will improve energy efficiency and increase community awareness of the importance of using a district cooling system and the economic and environmental benefits it provides, which is the best system in terms of sustainability.
District Cooling Services Department was established by Kahramaa in 2012 as a regulator for district cooling services in the country.
