Doha: Italy’s Marco Gradoni took an early lead at the Optimist Asian and Oceanian Championships which kicked off here yesterday from Katara Beach. Gradoni, leads a field of 118 sailors from 17 countries who are vying for the Asian and Oceanian titles in the individual and team championships. At the end of three race, out of the maximum ten, in the ten-day championship, Gradoni has a Nett score of 8. Daniel Hung of Singapore is in the second spot followed by Suthon Yampinid of Thailand. In the girls section, Jodie Lai of Singapore leads and is sixth position overall. The hosts have fielded 16 sailors in the competition, including four girl sailors, which ends on October 20.
