Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has marked 16 years of continuous accreditation for its network of hospitals and services by the prestigious United States Joint Commission International (JCI), demonstrating the healthcare providers committed to delivering the safest, most effective and most compassionate care.
HMC hospitals have been accredited by JCI more than 40 times over the last 16 years, recognizing the compliance to national and international standards of care and commitment to providing the highest quality of care and safety for all patients, HMC announced on it social media platforms.
JCI Accreditation and Certification is recognised as a global leader for healthcare quality of care and patient safety. JCI is a division of the Joint Commission Resources (JCR), the non-profit affiliate of the Joint Commission which has been accrediting healthcare organizations and programmes in the US for more than 50 years. The JCI mission is ‘To continuously improve the safety and quality of care in the international community through the provision of education and consultation services and international accreditation’.
HMC’s hospitals and entities Rumailah Hospital, Hamad General Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, National Centre for Cancer and Research, Heart Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital, the Cuban Hospital, Women’s Wellness and Research Centre, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, Ambulatory Care Centre, Communicable Disease Centre, Hamad Dental Centre, Long Term Care, Mental Health Service are accredited by JCI.
Also HMC’s Ambulance Service and Home Care Service are JCI accredited. While the Support and Palliative Care, Acute Stroke Service, Diabetes Mellitus are accredited by clinical care programme certification by JCI. After rigorous inspections, HMC’s hospitals were first given official JCI accreditation in 2006 and have completed 16 years of passing the JCI Accreditation process. In 2019, 13 of HMC’s hospitals were accredited by the JCI out of which twelve of the hospitals were accredited on Hospital Standards and one, Hamad Dental Center, on Ambulatory Care Standards.
This included eight hospitals which already held JCI accreditation also being successfully re-accredited, as well as accreditation for the first time for five hospitals: Ambulatory Care Center, Communicable Disease Center, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, Hamad Dental Center and Mental Health Service.
To mention, HMC achieved the significant distinction of becoming the first healthcare system across the globe to have all its hospitals accredited by JCI under the Academic Medical Center accreditation programme. “Simultaneous accreditation across all hospitals is an outstanding achievement. It demonstrates our commitment to providing the very best care to our patients at all times, while sharing new learning experiences and continuing to develop innovative ways of delivering the highest quality of care. We are proud to acknowledge that we have had the distinction of consecutively receiving JCI accreditation,” HMC said on its website.
