To strengthen the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem in the country, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has launched an online poll on challenges to  entrepreneurs in the technology sector.

The questionnaire has two main questions: What are the challenges facing entrepreneurs in the technology sector? What is the best way to overcome them?

Anyone can contribute to identifying and overcoming these issues by answering the survey available online, the Ministry announced on Twitter.

Different entities in Qatar have launched many initiatives in recent years to promote entrepreneurship in the country. Digital Incubation Center (DIC) of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology was created to boost ICT innovation in Qatar, particularly among young people at the critical early stages of starting or growing a technology-related business.

Meanwhile, Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) is a unique mixed-use business incubation centre providing business support services to help entrepreneurs and companies that either have an idea to start a business or want to grow an existing business.

QBIC was established by leading institutions working to promote entrepreneurship in Qatar — QDB and the Social Development Center ‘NAMA’.

Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) Incubation Center is a technology-focused incubation programme that aims to foster local tech entrepreneurship in Qatar.

The programme aims to accelerate the establishment and growth of promising tech startups through quick incorporation, collaborative co-working space, business facilitation, and support services that provide access to a network of mentors, funding programmes, training, and prototyping facilities.

In May this year, Qatar was ranked among top 10 countries for entrepreneurs. The country secured ninth place in the ranking of best countries for entrepreneurs in 2022. With a score of 5.5, Qatar placed 9th on the National Entrepreneurial Context Index (NECI) 2021. Qatar is well ahead of many developed economies including United States, France, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom and Japan in the ranking.

According to the report, 73.8 percent of Qatar's population saw good opportunities to start a business where they lived, compared to 72.3 percent in 2020, while 70.9 percent also said they had the skills, knowledge and experience to start a business, compared to 68.2 percent in 2020.

In January 2019, Qatar also topped the global entrepreneurship environment, according to Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report, in which 54 countries worldwide took part.

In June this year, as a part of the 5th Conference on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CEED 2022) activities, on behalf of Qatar University (QU), the Centre for Entrepreneurship, at the College of Business and Economics hosted the first edition of the Qatar Entrepreneurship Awards (QEA). It was organised in partnership with regional consulting and technology firm HyperThink Systems.
