In an interview with The Peninsula, Gary Miller Thomson, General Manager of G4S Qatar, said that "Facility management (FM) projects are critical for the sustainable and economic future of Qatar following the considerable investment in both private and public infrastructure."
As the hot weather conditions peaked in the country, it is important to conduct predictive and preventive maintenance in all areas of a property to ensure that all staff comprehends the ‘criticality’ of the operating systems, Thomson said.
The G4S General Manager explained that numerous projects in the country have implemented ‘smart’ buildings utilizing the latest techniques, technology, and energy management.
Among the company’s clients are QatarEnergy and Qatargas, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Hamad International Airport, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, which it is working with to further strengthen the country’s economy in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
He highlighted that the company expects many projects with the forthcoming events in Qatar this year.
“It is anticipated that we will benefit from the additional influx of tourists and other ‘mega’ events that will take place, such as Expo 2023. However, our core focus will remain in the Government infrastructure sector, as this is guaranteed long-term, stable revenue generation,” Thomson said.
The industry is rapidly evolving with the introduction of modern technologies and facilities. Thomson said, “Security and facilities management is a growth industry as technology improves. From a security perspective, we must stop merely thinking about manned guarding and look at how we can integrate technological solutions such as AI into our CCTV and access control systems to reduce the physical manned presence.”
