Doha, Qatar: Qatar Museums, the nation’s preeminent institution for art and culture, yesterday announced its spring 2025 exhibitions programme, which features the third edition of the Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, a biennial of exhibitions, awards, presentations and workshops that amplify the diverse practices of photographers and photographic communities in Qatar and the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region.
This year’s theme focuses on the meaning of belonging through six exhibitions on view throughout museums, galleries, and outdoor venues in Doha.
The festival’s anchor exhibition, To Look at the Sea is to Become What One Is, curated by Tasweer’s Artistic Director, Meriem Berrada, will be on view at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence. The exhibition highlights three generations of Arab artists whose work invites audiences to reflect on their place in the world and their roles in society.
The landmark exhibition Latinoamericano: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba) and Eduardo F. Costantini Collections will be the first large-scale presentation of Latin American art in the WANA region.
On view at the National Museum of Qatar, the exhibition provides an overview of the artistic production of the continent through works by key artists from 1900 until today.
The exhibition forms a cornerstone of the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture.
Additional programme highlights include Qatar: Close to my Soul, Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, a survey exhibition of works by Qatari artists from various generations offering multiple artistic styles and trends, and Wafa Al Hamad: Sites of Imagination, the groundbreaking late artist’s first solo museum exhibition, featuring works from the Mathaf Permanent Collection. Both exhibitions will be on view at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.
Also included in the spring 2025 programme is A Seat at the Table: Food & Feasting in the Islamic World, an exploration of the role food plays in Islamic traditions, on view at the Museum of Islamic Art. Ultraleggera: A Design Journey with Marcello Gandini Between Italy and Qatar (Working Title) organised by the future Qatar Auto Museum, will be on view at the National Museum of Qatar.
Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices, which premiered to great acclaim at ACP-Palazzo Franchetti in Venice to coincide with the 60th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, will open at Mathaf.
The exhibition presents more than 40 filmmakers and video artists from the Arab world and Global South whose works focus on migration and exile. This exhibition is co-organised by Doha Film Institute, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, and the future Art Mill Museum.
