Ministry cautions Qatar citizens against travelling to Maldives

Doha: A travel advisory has been issued by the ministry warning people against travelling to Maldives at the moment due to the H1N1 outbreak in the island nation.  

Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on their social media handle. 

The rough translation of the Arabic tweet reads as follows:

“The foreign ministry warns citizens against travelling to Maldives this moment due to the spread of H1N1 virus”

According to reports in Maldives Independent a 29-year-old pregnant woman who tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus died Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Malé.

The death of the pregnant woman brings the H1N1 death toll to five this year.

“The rapid spread of H1N1 amid a seasonal outbreak of the flu and viral fever prompted schools and state universities to close earlier this month. But the education ministry decided to resume the first term on Sunday after a week-long mid-term break,” the website said in its report.

Earlier the Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz had cancelled his visit to Maldives due to The H1N1 outbreak.
