Doha: Performing a tremendous job during recently hosted FIFA Arab Cup, Mowasalat (Karwa buses) provided world-class transportation to over 343,000 fans through its over 60,000 service hours.
Mowasalat deployed over 1,000 electric and clean diesel buses for its operations with over 1,200 ground staff.
According to information shared by Mowasalat in a video posted on its Twitter account, company provided services at 28 tournament locations, including stadiums, metro stations, other leisure destinations like Katara and Souq Waqif which organised tournament associated cultural activities.
Mowasalat provided special bus services during the FIFA Arab Cup to access the stadiums and also other venues like Corniche, which was closed (from November 26 to December 4) to private vehicles. The non-stadium services included Corniche Shuttle Service and Central Doha loops on B and C Ring Roads, according to an earlier released information by the company.
Mowasalat further said in the tweet: “Tested and proven: we are ready for 2022.”
The stadium services also included Metro Shuttles and Park and Ride Shuttles. Metro Shuttles included Al Wakrah Metro Station to Al Janoub Stadium; Free Zone Metro Station to Al Thumama Stadium; Lusail Metro Station to Al Bayt Stadium while Park and Ride Shuttles included P54 to Al Bayt Stadium; P36 and 34 to Education City Stadium; P71 and P70 to Ras Abu Aboud Stadium and P27 to Al Janoub Stadium.
All MetroLink and MetroExpress Services had also extended operating hours to compliment Metro operations. Karwa provided services with limited 75% capacity as per directives of the Ministry of Public Health.
It is pertinent to mention that in June, Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti had inaugurated the pilot operation of Mowasala't electric bus charging station.
It was upon the arrival in Doha of the first batch of electric buses that will be serving the public transit plans for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, thus supporting the hosting of an eco-friendly and carbon-neutral championship.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in May, had begun installing 653 electric chargers and 713 inverters in 41 charging sites under construction for the Public Bus Infrastructure Program to serve the fleet of electric buses to operate, according to the plan set by Ministry of Transport and Communication.
Ashghal is also constructing the largest electric charging station in the region, which operates on solar energy and monitor and control the operation of all the sites involved. High-efficiency solar cell shades will be established, becoming the first bus station in the region working purely on solar energy source, one important aspects of renewable energy.
