Festive mood was permeated throughout the country yesterday as hypermarkets, malls and other places saw huge crowds having last minute preparation for a grand Eid Al Fitr celebration today.
Retail shops, restaurants, beauty salons and hypermarkets claim that Eid related businesses was thriving similar to previous years, regardless of the blockade.
“The footfall at hypermarkets and malls start incising during the last days of Ramadan and this year was not an exception. We have seen the same trend in business and the rush increasing after 8pm in the nights. Last year we had only five outlets and this year there are seven branches, yet the rush at each hypermarket hasn’t changed,” said a spokesperson at the Quality Group International.
The rush at beauty salons in Doha increases as Ramadan draws to an end. Some work over night to meet the demands and this Eid was not an exception.
“Some make appointments in advance and other wait until the last minute. We were literally inundated with calls for booking during the last two days. Customers come in high numbers for with different requirements and it has not changed. They have different requirements like to get their hair dyed or cut, or want straightening done, or they go for a glowing skin, manicure and pedicure, or waxing and facials. We have made separate arrangements for applying henna designs as the demand is so high and many just walk in at the last minute,” said employee of a beauty salon in old Airport area.
