Doha: JedariArt, the annual public art programme by Qatar Museums is back this year and applications are now open to artists who want to add vibrancy to the walls of Qatar.

The third edition of the programme brings together artists to add vibrancy and depth to Doha’s city walls through murals and street art. It also fits into Qatar Museums’ continuous commitment to developing local talent and fostering public art.
Its goal is to stimulate urban areas around the city while also encouraging creative activity in designated districts and establishing new places for people to come.
“By submitting your proposal, you understand your application will be stored in our database and you may be contacted if a wall and opportunity becomes available,” said Qatar Museums.
Among the selection criteria are: artists will only be considered if their proposal meets the checklist at a minimum, artists can be at any stage of their career but must possess strong skills and be able to execute the proposed project, this opportunity is for artists residing in Qatar and applicants must hold a valid Qatar residence permit, and successful applicants will receive a commission contract to execute the proposed public artwork.
Interested artists who want to apply may visit qm.org.qa to register. Among the vast number of public artworks in Qatar include Mubarak Al Malik’s black and white mural depicting a woman wearing a batoola and holding an incense burner located at the Fire Station; traditional truck art by All India Permit and Phool Patti at Al Mansoura Metro Station; and “Family Reunion” by Abdulaziz Yousef at Msheireb Station.
Meanwhile, Qatar Museums also announced that the Student Initiative programme open call has started and submission of deadline is on April 20. The programme invites students and alumni to propose a permanent or temporary public artwork, with the chosen artist commissioned to produce their idea.
Criteria includes: students and alumni will only be considered if their proposal meets the checklist at a minimum; Students can submit as individuals or groups; the artwork proposed must be fabricated locally; Qatar Museums consider sculptures, installations, mosaic tiles, and mixed media; artists must be over 18 or have graduated within the last two years.
And, artists must possess strong skills to execute the proposed project and may have a mentor as support and the open call is for artists residing in Qatar with a valid Qatar ID. To apply, visit the Qatar Museums website.
