Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality (MoM) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) have announced to offer 30 investment opportunities to the private sector to get plots of land for establishing recycling factories in Al Afja Recycling Industries Zone, Mesaieed.

The initiative aims at strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors to achieve an integrated system for the circular economy.

Registration to benefit from these opportunities will begin through the single window platform from May 21 and continue till August 21, 2025, for three months, to ensure ease of procedures for investors wishing to establish waste recycling projects.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Municipality yesterday.

Addressing the press conference, Director of Waste Recycling and Treatment Department at the Ministry of Municipality, Eng Hamad Jassim Al Bahar said that the project offers investment opportunities in recycling paper, wood, plastic, glass, used cloths, electronic waste, animal waste, food waste, and waste segregation.

Al Afjah Recycling Industries Zone, which has been allocated for recycling industries, currently includes 24 factories under construction and 16 existing factories for recycling various types of waste.

“The opportunities to get plots of land for the private sector come within Qatar’s plan to reduce, recycle, and manage waste in the right way, to become a multi-use source for many products and industries that contribute to the development of the circular economy system,” said Al Bahar.

He said that following Qatar National Vision 2030, the state has been keen to achieve a balance between the components of sustainable development, which represents a comprehensive framework for improving the optimal use of waste through integration between the public and private sectors.

“The initiative comes within the state’s plan to enhance Qatar’s ability to deal with the large increase in the amount of waste resulting from urban and economic development in the country and to enhance partnerships between the private and public sectors to build a distinctive circular economy market,” said Al Bahar.

Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality Abdullah Al Karani and Head of the Industrial Zones Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Omar Jaafar Al Ali also attended the conference. Director of the Industrial Development Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Ghanem Al Maadheed said that the initiative comes within the framework of the Qatar National Strategy for Manufacturing Industries 2024-2030, which was recently launched by the Ministry.

He said that the strategy aims at enhancing the competitiveness of national industries and supporting the transition towards a circular economy by adopting innovative solutions in recycling and optimal use of resources.

“The Ministry continues its efforts to enhance the role of the private sector in developing sustainable industries, especially in the field of recycling, due to its positive impact in supporting the national economy and preserving the environment,” said Al Maadheed.

The initiative comes within the national efforts to achieve sustainable development and support the transition towards a circular economy.

The relevant authorities will continue to provide the necessary technical support to ensure the success of these projects and enhance the role of the private sector in achieving the country’s environmental and economic goals.
