Doha, Qatar: Qatar University (QU)’s Student Career Development Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), successfully concluded the first career development camp for university students.

Sponsored by Ahli Bank, the camp aimed to empower graduating students by equipping them with essential skills to facilitate a smooth transition into the job market.

The Career Development Camp, held until mid-month, aligns with the Ministry of Labour’s initiatives to enhance the skills of the national workforce, fostering competitiveness in the private sector. Representatives from Qatar University, the Ministry of Labour, Ahli Bank, and QCDC were present at the camp’s conclusion ceremony, emphasising the importance of such initiatives for the nation’s youth.

Abdulrahman Telfat, Director of Qualifying and Skill Development at the Ministry of Labour, emphasised the camp’s objective of establishing direct communication with graduating students to aid their entry into the job market. Telfat highlighted the camp as an opportunity for participants to identify in-demand specialisations and the requisite skills to enhance their qualifications for the job market.

Mohamed Al Hafiz, President of QU’s Student Association, stated: “The primary goal of the first career camp is to empower participating students with the skills and tools necessary for the job market efficiently.”

He added: “The camp included nearly 14 training workshops, practical activities, and simulations of job interviews, offering students insights into the most sought-after specialisations in the job market.” Saad Al Kharji, Career Programs and Services Manager at QCDC, said: “We are pleased to see QU students, represented by the Student Career Development Association, and their enthusiasm in organising the first career camp of its kind for the university. The turnout for the camp demonstrates students’ awareness of the importance of these types of skills and complementary training to enhance their academic qualifications.”

Saad Al Kaabi, Head of Human Resources at Ahli Bank, expressed his satisfaction as the official sponsor of the training camp. “I am delighted to represent Ahli Bank today as the official sponsor of this university student training camp. Today marks the successful conclusion of this programme, which has significantly helped many students qualify for entry into the job market — an excellent outcome. Through our job interviews, we have observed that resumes are not always organised, and sometimes applicants are not adequately prepared. This camp focuses on developing these skills. I would like to thank QU and the Ministry of Labour for their outstanding performance. We look forward to participating in and sponsoring similar camps in the future for the benefit of students.”

In a statement, Dr. Abdulla Al Mulla, Director of Student Activities Department at QU, highlighted the significance of the Career Development Camp.

“The camp, a collaboration between students and key entities such as the Ministry of Labour and QCDC, aimed to instil the correct culture of career development among university students. It played a vital role in assisting participants —selected from a pool of 40 to 45 — in various aspects, including job interviews, career path identification, and crafting professional resumes.”
