Doha, Qatar: The closing date for submissions to the Design Doha Prize, a biennale event dedicated to creative innovation, is fast approaching, with the application deadline set for January 30.
Organised under Qatar Museums, this inaugural design biennial in Doha serves as a showcase for the current design landscape in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and is scheduled for next month.
“Design Doha will be an elevating movement, serving as a dedicated platform for fostering creativity and design excellence. It provides creatives and institutions with a space to showcase their designs and ideas. This biennale is committed to offering tangible and authentic solutions, showcasing the richness of MENA culture and creativity, while highlighting the exceptional design environment of Qatar on the global stage,” it said on its website.
“The week-long opening event replete with exhibitions, discussions, and engaging activities focuses on the design scene in the MENA region and its role in global trends. By convening leading voices in design and presenting cutting-edge Design technologies and award-winning creations, we aspire to attract a global audience to the work of local and regional designers.”
Open to practitioners across the MENA region, the 2024 edition of the prize revolves around the theme of “design excellence.” The primary goal is to promote the talent and creativity of MENA designers by providing a monetary prize, mentorship, exposure, logistical support, and insurance support.
The prize seeks to empower designers, offer valuable guidance, and present their work to a broader audience.
The Design Doha Prize features four categories: Product Design, Interior Design, Furniture Design, and Craft. Each category carries a QR100,000 monetary prize, along with business mentorship opportunities, market exposure, logistical support, and 12 months of insurance support from the awarding day. Eligibility criteria include having an established design business in product design, interior design, furniture design, or craft with a minimum of two years of trading.
