Doha: Preparations are underway for the arrival of Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt, the face of this year’s campaign of Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition (DJWE), FAB Entertainment said.

“Alia is very excited, very honoured and happy to be making her way to Doha for DJWE; preparations are on in terms of styling, her dress, the piece of jewellery that she will wear and all the logistics preparations,” FAB Entertainment CEO, Fauzia Vohra said during a DJWE Media Roundtable held recently.

Vohra explained that Alia will be inaugurating the event and will not represent any collection or brand.

On choosing the Indian actress as the face of the campaign, she said: “India is a very important partner of DJWE, we’ve had the Indian pavilion for a couple of years, and we also wanted someone who has international fame.”

She added, “Alia is an international face. In fact, she appeared at the Berlin Film Festival for her latest movie. Alia is also making her Hollywood debut for a Netflix movie. She is extremely popular in the subcontinent and is the biggest face and name right now, so the choice is undeniable. Also, in line with the cultural fabric of Qatar, it is fitting to have Alia over here.”

Her upcoming movie is entitled Heart of Stone, which is Alia’s English-language film debut. Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan will also star in the spy thriller movie.

This is the first time the newly-married actress will be inaugurating an event in the country. FAB CEO Vohra said holding the DJWE this year is exceptional as the country will host the FIFA World Cup 2022.

“Alia is immensely excited, and she’s obviously never been to the expo. It’s a first for her, and she knows that it’s a landmark jewellery event globally. DJWE is not just something big in the region but globally, and she’s excited to be part of this global event.”

During the 17th edition of DJWE in 2020, Bollywood superstar, Sonam Kapoor, was the face of the global campaign “Journey into Wonder,” launched in 16 markets. The exhibit attracted over 32,000 visitors. The Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition returns on May 9 to 13 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in West Bay, a year after a pause due to COVID-19 restrictions. It features more than 500 brands from over 10 countries.

The 18th edition will also see the return of the Indian and Turkish pavilions, and a showcase of Qatari designers and workshops will likewise take place during the five-day event.
