Kuwait City: A brilliant knock by Muhammad Tanveer and a resilient bowling attack, led by right-arm medium paceman Iqbal Hussain Chaudhry helped Qatar secure their second win at the ICC World T20 Asia Region Qualifiers yesterday.
At Kuwait City, Qatari team took the first lease of the match after winning the toss and scored 149 for 7 in their 20 overs. Veteran right-hand batsman Tanveer hit three sixes and same number of boundaries in his 41-run knock of 53 to make the highest contribution to his team. Opener, skipper Inam-ul-Haq also played his part with a well-compiled 41 which came in 33 deliveries.
Chaudhry captured 3 for 14 to lead the Qatari bowling attack to restrict Maldives to a paltry 105 for 7.
Maldivians showed some resistance in the first few overs with Mihusan Hamid (24) and Nilantha Cooray (27) trying to keep scoring. Hamid was bowled by Inam-ul-Haq and Chaudhry dismissed Cooray.
Maldivians lost their wickets in regular intervals and eventually fell short of 44 runs at the end of 20 overs.
This was Qatar’s second win in the tournament.
