Doha: The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption held its annual general assembly yesterday, via video conference technology, under the chairmanship of President of the organization     H  E Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud.

The meeting discussed a number of topics on its agenda related to the organization’s achievements and activities during the past stage, as well as its plans and workflow for the coming period.

During the meeting, it was unanimously approved the selection of Chairman of the Internal and External Affairs Committee of the Shura Council H E Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, to President of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption for two years.

In his speech inaugurating the annual meeting of the General Assembly of the organization, Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud reviewed the accomplishments achieved under his presidency.

Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said two years ago, exactly December 9 and 10, 2019, the city of Doha hosted the 7th conference of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, and he was elected and assigned to head the organization and he accepted this assignment and promised to carry out this responsibility and make all possible efforts in order to achieve the noble goals of the organization and to introduce its activities and expand membership in it to create new national and regional branches, and indeed he sought to find the necessary capabilities for the organization, and decided to move the headquarters of the organizations general secretariat and its employees to the city of Doha

His Excellency indicated that the organization, despite the difficult circumstances that humanity has experienced and is still going through as a result of the continuing Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, has continued its activities by contributing to the work of meetings and conferences organized by international and regional organizations and federations.

His Excellency expressed his thanks to all those who helped in this task, and contributed to achieving the good results that were achieved in accordance with the established strategy, despite the difficult circumstances, and despite the challenges that were overcome thanks to everyone’s cooperation.

For his part, Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri thanked the participants in the meeting for this confidence, and promised to make all possible efforts in order to achieve the goals of the organization and carry out its humanitarian and real work in fighting corruption, which everyone considers a scourge that prevents peoples from achieving the sustainable development they seek.

He praised the good efforts made by President of the organization Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, the former president of the organization, to advance it and enhance its presence in the international community, as well as to strengthen and support its activities by preparing a work strategy for the period of two years.
