DOHA: The 24th Men’s Handball World Championship Organising Committee yesterday signed a pioneering sponsorship agreement with Qatar Petroleum and Industries Qatar and its group companies QAPCO, QAFCO, Qatar Steel, QAFAC and QATOFIN — demonstrating the incredible level of support being provided by Qatar’s leading business for this event.
The contract of mutual agreement was signed at a press conference held here by Dr Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar 2015 Organising Committee and Abdulrahman Ahmad Al Shaibi, Director of Finance, Qatar Petroleum, and Chief Coordinator, Industries Qatar and its group companies.
The overarching agreement — one of the most significant ever signed for a major event in Qatar — positions Qatar Petroleum as a prestige partner for the first international men’s handball world championship tournament in Qatar, which will be held from January 15 to February 1 next year.
Industries Qatar, QAPCO, QAFCO, and Qatar Steel will be official partners of the championship, while QAFAC and QATOFIN will be business partners of the prestigious event.
This incredible level of support from a diverse range of companies will help the organising committee to deliver an inspiring and transformative championship for Qatar and the international sporting community, and will promote some key Qatari brands to a global audience of sports fans.
Al Kuwari, the Director General of Qatar 2015, said: “We in the Qatar 2015 Organising Committee, headed by H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, are proud to be working with some of Qatar’s leading companies — Qatar Petroleum, Industries Qatar and its group companies — as partners for the Men’s Handball World Championship. Our ambition is to organise a world-class event in 2015 and leave a strong legacy of sports development for the people of Qatar — and our partnership will enable us to deliver that.”
Al Shaibi, Director of Finance, Qatar Petroleum, and Chief Coordinator, Industries Qatar, said: “This sponsorship springs from the role that Industries Qatar plays in supporting national initiatives, which in turn, are positively reflected in our support of the country’s sports strategy. It is our pleasure to support the Qatar Handball Championship 2015. As IQ is one of the main supportive pillars of our country’s strategies, we trust that our presence and contribution to this initiative is a great opportunity. Hosting the championship will enable Qatar to demonstrate that we have the skills, experience, facilities and enthusiasm to host incredible sporting events as a nation, and we are enthusiastic to play our part.”
All partners of the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship Qatar 2015 will benefit from brand exposure to an international audience though a global broadcast of the event and a mix of digital merchandising and advertising rights as applicable across the different sponsor categories.
With the participation of 24 countries from all over the world, the biennial Men’s Handball World Championship is the biggest and one of the most important international events in Olympic sport. Handball is one of the most dynamically developing Olympic sports and enjoys a continuously increasing fan base worldwide.
