Doha: In a report about the quality of water used for irrigation, the Director of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality, Mohamed Ali Al-Khoury, stated that there are two sources of water used in parks, adding that though both are clean and free of bacteria, they are not suitable for human consumption.
Speaking on Qatar TV recently, Al Khoury noted that there are two sources of - the treated water from the Public Works Department (Ashghal), which is pumped to most of the main streets and large parks in the country, and the freshwater that is used within the Al Furjan parks located inside neighborhoods in Qatar.
Al-Khoury confirmed that after analyzing the water in cooperation with the Public Works Authority, they found that this water is clean, free of harmful bacteria or microbes, and so can be used for agriculture and landscaping only. "But it is not suitable for drinking because it is a triple-level treatment, and water needs to undergo quadruple therapy for it to be drinkable," he added.
This comes at a time when parks across Qatar will witness a rush due to the advent of winter and the launch of many international events in Qatar.
