Two Egyptian children, Youssef and Gharam, engaged to be married took the media and networking site by storm. An announcement by the father, Nasser Hassan, of the 12-year-old Yousef of engagement to his cousin Gharam, 11-year-old, sparked outrage.
According to Egyptian law, marriage below 18 is illegal but UNICEF reports that 17 per cent of girls are married off before they reach that age.
Pictures of Youssef and Gharam that is viral now on social media sparked outrage, especially the one where the young children are dressed like a bridal pair. Youssef can be seen in a blue suit while Gharam is seen in a white dress, high heels and wearing a tiara. Omar's father, who faced flak for his announcement, informed media that he was a free man and did nothing wrong.
