Customs checking shipments in Qatar
Doha, Qatar: The Operations Department of the General Authority of Customs plans to employ modern technology and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in data processing and improve operational efficiency, said an official.
In the Customs newsletter for July 2023, Nasser Ahmed Al Mohannadi, Head of Operations Department, said, “The customs department focuses on supervising the management of the infrastructure of the customs clearance system, developing customs operations workflow, improving their quality and contributing to the preparation of plans to promote the customs clearance system.”
Discussing future plans to develop the Operations Department, Al Mohannadi pointed out employing modern technology and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in data processing and facilitate daily operations. Training and developing the skills of employees in the operations department to keep pace with changes and continuous improvement by implementing training programmes to enhance knowledge and efficiency in operations management.
He further added that to develop a strong system to measure and evaluate the performance of the operations department using data analysis and preparing periodic reports to measure performance and identify areas that need improvement and development, and to enhance cooperation and coordination with other government agencies.
Al Mohannadi said a special service is designed to conduct research and studies to develop the system periodically to continuously search for the development of the system in line with the latest international technologies, achieve the highest operational efficiency and practice the optimal goal of achieving the highest level of satisfaction for internal and external beneficiaries.
All the services of the department are linked to each other to one degree or another, so that the services are integrated in achieving the three main objectives of the internal and external customs units, namely reducing the average release time, raising risk standards, protecting the security of society and ensuring the safety of procedures and the accuracy of revenue collection.
The official noted that the customs clearance operations room operates around the clock, in order to follow up customs work and manage the customs clearance system without problems or temporary downtime. The goal is to improve the level of customer satisfaction through studying the continuous development of system services and recording all stages of customs clearance, and then a continuous study towards facilitating the procedure without prejudice to the management of community security, while maintaining a consistent methodology towards reducing the release time and controlling documented procedures, he added.
“We designed a service in the department to achieve the promotion and marketing of the customs system under the name of participation in the plans to promote the system, in cooperation and coordination with the concerned administrative units and periodically (quarterly) and with detailed studies of development proposals,” the official stated.
