Doha, Qatar: Following a string of playful barbs on social media, two of the wealthiest people in the world — Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg — are trading the boardroom for the ultimate fighting arena.
The rivalry between the tech moguls appears to be moving from digital platforms to a real-life UFC cage.
It began when Musk replied to a tweet speculating about Meta's potential launch of a new social media platform to compete with Twitter, joking: “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be ‘sane’. Was worried there for a moment,” he tweeted along with a laughing-crying emoji.
A Twitter user chimed in, cautioning Musk that Zuckerberg has been practicing jiu-jitsu.
Musk accepted the implied challenge, saying: “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol."
Zuckerberg fired back on Instagram, posting an IG story of the screenshot of Musk's tweet with a simple caption: “send me location”.
Musk responded to Zuckerberg's story by tweeting: “If this is for real, I will do it.”
This peculiar exchange grabbed the attention of tech news outlet The Verge, who contacted Meta for a comment. A representative responded on Wednesday night stating: “The story speaks for itself.”
In response to a Verge reporter's tweet, Musk further tweeted referring to the fight location— “[Las] Vegas Octagon.”
He even teased a potential strategy: “I have this great move that I call ‘The Walrus’, where I just lie on top of my opponent & do nothing.”
The prospect of a physical bout between Musk and Zuckerberg has since sparked intense debate among social media users, inspiring a wave of memes and speculation about this highly unlikely encounter.
