Doha: The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Security Last-Mile Conference will begin in Doha today, the Safety & Security Operations Committee (SSOC) of the Security Committee of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 announced in a press conference yesterday.

The two-day conference will be attended by representatives from the qualified countries, the United Nations, FIFA, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Europol, Interpol and other international and local organisations, as well as representatives from other relevant stakeholders.

“This conference’s purpose is to promote our security planning which we have done in the last decade. We have to also make our partners participating in this tournament (Qatar 2022) know what we have done. The participants will be our representatives to their fans, making it easy to communicate with them. They will be the best ambassadors for us when they return to their countries and make our mission easier,” Major General Eng. Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ansari, Head of the Safety & Security Operations Committee for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, told the media.

“The conference will outline Qatar’s security readiness ahead of Qatar 2022, seek to identify the latest preparations for the tournament, enhance police cooperation and monitor the implementation of plans and strategies in collaboration with local, regional and international stakeholders,” he added.

Major General Al Ansari also disclosed that participants would be given a tour of all the stadiums after the conference. They will also be briefed on the security apparatus and approaches while entering and exiting the stadium. He noted that the International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC) had been established in Doha.

The Center will be managed and supervised by the committee, and it has been provided with the latest advanced technology and infrastructure.

He also highlighted Project Stadia, a project between Qatar and Interpol that aims to contribute to policing and security arrangements for Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup. Major General Al Ansari said the 10-year-long project would add value to any country hosting a significant event, adding that “we are going to sign the Stadia with Interpol to extend this project for any country if they need any experience from our organisation.

“There’s so much to learn, and we are sure this will be an asset to the world.”

Meanwhile, in a statement, Brig. Gen. Al Mohannadi pointed to the roles of the IPCC by exchanging information between Qatar, as the host country, both participating and non-participating countries, and relevant international organisations. He added that the conference would be an opportunity to enhance cooperation and communication with countries and global and regional organisations.
