Doha: The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)’s main Emergency Department, Ambulance Service, and Paediatric Emergency Centres (PEC) across the country recorded less number of cases on the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
According to officials, the number of emergency cases was less compared to previous occasions. They also said that the number of cases has reduced possibly due to public awareness.
The Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital received a total of 209 cases including 44 for abdominal problems and 10 for general trauma complaints.
“We have seen a decrease in the number of cases within the first 12 hours of the first day of Eid. None of the cases was critical and it is a good sign to see fewer people coming with emergency cases,” Dr. Aisha Al Sada, Emergency Resident at HGH said speaking to The Peninsula.
“This could be due to awareness created among the community by different stakeholders, especially about road safety,” she said.
According to Dr. Al Sada cases related to abdominal pain and vomiting; fever and vomiting; gastroenteritis; abdominal pain were seen mainly due to changes in food consumption time and eating habits.
Emergency and Urgent Care Services in Qatar are open 24/7 during the Eid Al Fitr holidays. HMC’s Emergency Departments open 24/7 for patients with medical emergencies are Trauma and Emergency Department (Hamad General Hospital), Al Wakra Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, The Cuban Hospital, Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, and Women’s Wellness and Research Center for gynecological emergencies.
Ambulance Service is available 24/7 for patients with severe medical emergencies.
The Ambulance Service transported 190 people due to medical and trauma conditions yesterday. It included four minor road accidents, and the rest were due to medical emergencies according to Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service, Ali Darwish.
He said, however, none of the cases was transported by Lifeflight (air-ambulances), adding that usually at least two to three cases are being transferred to hospitals by these services.
“On the first day of Eid, we have seen only very few road traffic seas, and zero cases were transported by Lifeflight, which is a very positive sign. The drop in the number of cases might be due to awareness among the community members,” Ali Darwish said.
HMC’s Paediatric Emergency Centers operate 24 hours throughout the holiday period as normal for medical emergencies involving children under the age of 14 years. Also, the Paediatric Emergency Department at Sidra Medicine, which treats children from the ages of 0 to 18 years is open during the Eid holidays.
The main PEC in Al Sadd received 865 cases and five were seen at the Paediatric Emergency Depart met at the Sidra Medicine due to different medical and trauma emergencies.
