Doha: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Arab Republic of Egypt Eng. Tarek El Molla affirmed that natural gas will play a pivotal role in the future energy landscape because of its effective contribution in the short and medium term and its positive impact in the long term.
In his speech at the 6th GECF Summit on Tuesday in Doha, His Excellency said that the member states of the forum have the capabilities and abilities that enable them to overcome the current challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and move forward in the process of economic progress, expressing his confidence in the contribution of this forum to further cooperation among its members in various fields related to natural gas.
His Excellency expressed aspiration, within the framework of today's summit, to work together on a joint initiative to achieve maximum exploitation of natural gas to become more environmentally friendly, ensuring a fair transition of energy and the benefit of all countries from their natural resources, explaining that the success of continuing to hold these summits affirms the success of strengthening cooperation among the forum countries to achieve the required balance in the gas markets.
HE Minister Eng. El Molla spoke about the COVID-19 crisis, which he said proved that his country is on the right path as a result of the reforms it witnessed in various fields, which undermined the effects of the negative repercussions of the pandemic, pointing out that Egypt was able to achieve remarkable positive economic growth during the year 2019-2020 in the Middle East and North Africa region.
HE Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated that as part of its hosting of the next UN climate change summit in Nov. 2022, during the 5th Edition of the Egypt Petroleum Show last week, Egypt presented a joint African initiative that takes into account the various dimensions of African countries in finding balanced and realistic solutions to the phenomenon of climate change and achieving transformation in the field of energy, without prejudice to the rights of countries and peoples to benefit from their natural resources, especially natural gas.
