Doha, Qatar: Qatar Foundation (QF) will mark International Education Day emphasising the collective role of society in nurturing and advancing education.
The event will feature panel discussions, workshops, and activities focusing on the crucial role of public and private entities, as well as individuals across society in fostering and cultivating an enriching environment for learning.
The International Day of Education is marked each year on January 24 by the United Nations – creating the opportunity for schools and families to come together to improve the quality of education, and students’ performance. In Qatar, the Cabinet recently approved to commemorate the day.
Under this year’s theme for International Education Day - ‘Education is Everyone’s Responsibility’, QF will host activities under several topics including the opening session on collective responsibility towards language and identity, and other discussions on protecting education in conflict zones, role of technology in inclusive education and role of family in education, said Maryam Al Hajri, Executive Director of Partnerships QF’s Pre-University Education Strategy, speaking at a press conference held at the QF headquarters yesterday.
Students from QF’s 13 Pre-University Education schools, together with 19 public and private schools, QF and other university students, educators, entities, and families are expected to participate in the events to be held at the Ceremonial Court in Education City on January 24, Wednesday.
Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the press conference Al Hajri said that everybody is responsible for advancing education in Qatar.
“We expect the impact of the International Education Day activities to be that organizations and entities in the community, school leaders, especially private school leaders will get new ideas, new directions and understand how impactful and how much they have to participate in the education in Qatar by providing continued education and by working with educators, ministry and schools,” she said.
“This is the first time we celebrate the International Day of Education (in Qatar). This is going to happen every year. I think from year to year we will see more impact and we will see people understanding more about how they can take the responsibility and provide support for educators, learners, and educational institutions,” added Al Hajri.
A panel discussion by QF’s Doha International Family Institute will highlight the importance of building a supportive environment that enhances trust and communication with children and youth.
“The interaction and effective participation of families in their children’s educational journey contributes to achieving better academic performance and greater success,” said Dr Sharifa Al Emadi, CEO, Doha International Family Institute.
Also, a student debate in collaboration with the Qatar Debate Centre will focus on the effectiveness of the current education system and whether it fulfils the needs of students at different levels.
Participants at QF’s International Education Day activities will also be able to experience an interactive exhibition featuring educational programmes and visit QF partner universities to learn about the study programmes available.
