Doha: Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has cared for more than 1.3 million patients since opening its main hospital in January 2018.
The state-of-the-art women and children healthcare facility is also the only paediatric sub-speciality hospital in Qatar.
“We proudly marked five years since opening our main hospital on January 14. Thank you for trusting us,” said Sidra Medicine on its twitter handle.
Sidra Medicine has 66 clinics and services. Since opening, over 6,700 babies were born in the hospital.
In a statement to The Peninsula, Chief Medical Officer, Prof Ziyad M Hijazi said, “I am very proud of the hard work by our teams across the spectrum of care.
It is thanks to them that we have been able to achieve many milestones that have put us on the global map — especially when it comes to paediatric sub-speciality care, research, approach to personalised medicine and our COVID-19 research.”
The services at Sidra Medicine have been ramped up through years and more complex paediatric surgeries, specialist paediatric services in neurology and cardiology, among others were included, along with deliveries focusing on high-risk pregnancies. The hospital also expanded its research and medical education offering.
“I recall when we welcomed the first 10 inpatients on the first day we officially opened the main hospital on January 14, 2018. The first inpatients were children requiring low-risk surgeries and a woman who underwent a C-section. In the five years since, we have performed some highly complex surgeries, including the separation of the conjoined twins Tamim and Hamad; published ground breaking research and saved the lives of hundreds of children who required specialist care,” he added.
Sidra Medicine has since expanded its women’s services to include gynaecology, adult pain, menopause, aesthetic surgery and medicine, internal-acute care medicine, lactation support for mothers, maternal fetal medicine and perinatal mental health.
Its children and adolescent health services include allergy and immunology, adolescent medicine, child and adolescent mental health, child safety and advocacy, genetics and genomic medicine, the heart centre, hematology and oncology and infant hip clinic. Emergency services are available for both women and children.
Sidra Medicine also cares for adults, including men with congenital heart disease; those requiring aesthetic surgery or experiencing male infertility issues. Its International patient services office provides access and individual support to overseas patients and their families throughout their stay at the hospital.
“We want families in Qatar, to feel reassured about the dedicated support we are committed to offering them. We are continually seeking ways to deliver on our mission to provide outstanding tertiary healthcare services.
“Since we opened, it has meant that hundreds of families who previously sought treatment abroad, can now get access to world-class care and treatment for their children here in Qatar at Sidra Medicine.
In addition, we launched our private paediatric evening clinics last year, which do not require referrals and accepts insurance and self-pay,” said Prof Hijazi.
“Sidra Medicine is also part of a dynamic research and education environment in Qatar and through strong partnerships with leading institutions around the world. The hospital is creating an intellectual ecosystem to help advance scientific discovery through investment in medical research. Research is becoming fully integrated into every patient’s journey,” Prof. Hijazi added.
