Majd Al Uraiq wins Al Mafiar Cup

DOHA: Majd Al Uraiq yesterday won the Al Mafiar Cup as jockey Marco Moneteriso tasted 15th win of the season at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).
The H Al Matwi-trained entry topped the seven-horse field with a time of 1:18.97.
Tuyoorna, trained by Jassim Al Ghazali, finished in second spot with British jockey Harry Bentley in the saddle.
In third place was Maazouz who was ridden by Alberto Sanna.
Earlier, Monteriso won race four as he guided Pure Amber to victory ahead of Bentley who was astride Hymenaios.
Anticipated, ridden by Cedric Segeaon, finished the 1800m race in third place.
Earlier Bentley, 22, topped race seven as the Briton guided Lupie to the first place. The Al Ghazali-entry finished with a time of 1:11.40.
Ridge Wood Dani, ridden by Declan Cannon, finished in second spot while Urban Dreamer with Yanis Aouabed in the saddle emerged third fastest in the 1200m race.
Bentley also won race five as Al Ghazali-trained Katja finished with a time of 1:11.75.
Disco Inferno, ridden by Gerald Avranche, finished second while The Smart One, with Monteriso in the saddle, ended in third spot.
Bentley also raced to victory in race two as he powered Taghya to the top spot in the 1200m race.
In second place was Al Waab ridden by J P Guillambert while Qaa’ed with jockey Aouabed was third best.
Today the riders return for action for Umm Taqa Cup and Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Cup Day.
Earlier in the week, QREC organised a horse auction on Friday and Saturday. Present during the two-day auction were Sheikh Mohamed Bin Faleh Al Thani QREC Chairman, Sami Jassim Al Boenain QREC General Manager and heads of QREC Sections as well as horse owners and trainers from Qatar and overseas.
The first day of the auction was assigned to Arabian horses while the second day was for thoroughbreds.
The total sales of horses over the two days amounted to nearly QR 7,112,000.
As many as 210 horses were exhibited of which 130 were sold and the highest bid for a horse was QR 360,000.
The auction was held at the QREC parade ring opposite QREC Grandstand and it saw large turnout of horse owners and farm and stud representatives.
It was an opportunity for horse owners to own new horses for the racing season.
The exhibits include Arabians, thoroughbreds, non-thoroughbreds and unknown breeds.
QREC Horse Registry had made all procedures and conditions governing selling and purchasing available.
The auction was organised at this time while QREC racing season is progressing in order to provide owners, whether leading studs and farms or non-Sheikh owners, to own high-quality horses and participate in the coming racing events.
The QREC management had made the final arrangements of the auction in accordance with a clear mechanism for selling and purchasing, serving the interests of the concerned parties.
The auction was hold over two days to exhibit the largest possible number of both Arabian and thoroughbred horses.
