Doha: Doha College has held a special ceremony to recognise its Year 12 students recently, who were awarded the world’s most popular international qualification for their age group – the (I)GCSE.
About 200 parents, friends and staff attended the Year 12 Celebration evening at Doha College’s Al Waab campus this week.
Doha College Principal Dr Steffen Sommer said the qualification—the International General Certificate of Secondary Education—took two years to complete and prepares them for their higher education in A Levels.
“This year a magnificent 96.9% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grade (I)GCSEs which is outstanding and places Doha College in the top 100 schools in the UK,” Dr Sommer said.
“Of this, 62.3% of students received five or more A*-As, a truly triumphant result that has beaten Doha College’s previous results.”
The 2015 Doha College Year 11 Outstanding Student of the Year Award was presented to Thomas Bolton for earning 11 A*s.
Thomas and his family flew in from the UK to receive the award, having recently relocated to Hastings. Thomas plans to study Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A level with a view to applying to Cambridge University to study Natural Science and Mathematics.
“I worked really hard but managed to balance my revision with joining my friends for lunch or going to the movies,” Thomas said.
