Bali: Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti met with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) H E Duarte Pacheco yesterday, on the sidelines of the 144th General Assembly of the IPU, which is being held at the Indonesian island of Bali.
During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council expressed her appreciation for the IPU activities, affirming the State of Qatar’s support for the Union’s activities aimed at promoting international peace and security on one hand, and enhancing cooperation between the Union, parliamentary councils and international and regional organizations in sustainable development efforts on the other hand.
For his part, Duarte Pacheco extended his thanks to the State of Qatar, as well as his appreciation for the initiatives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the international level, and for His Highness’ remarkable support for the world’s developing countries and just causes, expressing his admiration for the important developments that the State of Qatar is witnessing in promoting popular participation.
The President of IPU also commended the well-organised elections of the Shura Council, as well as the Council’s activity at the national, regional and international levels, stressing the Union’s preparedness to continue fruitful cooperation with the Council in various fields.
