Changing an old perception is an arduous task, but Bangladesh Forum Qatar is firm to meet this challenge. The newly created forum is that first step in the journey of thousand miles, which aims to change the image of Bangladeshi community in Qatar.
“Currently, if you say Bangladeshi community, people tend to associate it with people working in blue-collared job. We want to change this perception as many Bangladeshi expatriates are working in key positions in several reputed firms in Qatar,” Iftekhar Ahmad, President, Bangladesh Forum Qatar told The Peninsula. “Our forum has many professionals who are working in important positions in banking, aviation, education, marketing, energy, construction and other sectors,” added Ahmad.
Ahmad himself holds a senior position and currently he is Group Chief Financial Officer in Ali Bin Ali Group. The forum, which was formed last year, has orgnasied series activity in the short span of time. The programme include business and social activities.
The Forum in cooperation with the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) had organised a seminar on ‘Foreign Direct Investment Opportunities in Bangladesh’ at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, in September last year. Going by the turn out it was a huge success as top officials from both the countries attended the event.
Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, MP was the chief guest. Head of Business of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Thani, a large number of Qatari investors, business leaders, CEO of banks and financial institutions, and Head of diplomatic Missions in Doha attended the seminar.
“The aim of the seminar was to further increase the level of bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. We want to see more investors from Qatar going to Bangladesh and similarly more investors coming to Qatar from Bangladesh,” said Ahmad.
Early this month, professionals Bangladeshi Professionals under the banner of Bangladesh Forum Qatar, organised a beach cleaning drive, in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, at Wakrah Family Beach.
Around 150 volunteers of the forum and their families participated in the drive. The event was to create greater community awareness about the need to protect and preserve the natural environment, and keep the marine habitat safe and trash-free.
