Al Kharaitiyat displayed a dominating performance to register their first victory of the QNB Stars League (QSL) season shocking Al Gharafa 4-1 at Al Khor Stadium yesterday, thanks to a brace from Tiberkanine Rachid.
Al Kharaitiyat, who were reeling at 10th position with just a one point from four rounds, entered the Al Khor field as underdogs against sixth-placed Al Gharafa. However, that wasn’t the case as Al Kharaitiyat took control of the proceedings right from the start.
Repeated attacks and a good defensive approach paid them dividend when they won a penalty in the 40th minute and Tiberkanine Rachid made no mistake to give them a 1-0 lead, which they retained till the half-time.
The final session started with the same pace with both the sides exchanging attacks, however, it was Al Gharafa star Vladmir Weiss who found the target, leveling the score 1-1 on a field goal in 59th minute – his third goal of the season.
A stunning goal by Gounerou Josue Mohy – the first of the season from the seasoned campaigner - in the 66th minute regained the lead for Al Kharaitiyat. Mohy stunned Al Gharafa defence with an attempt from outside the circle, finding the cage after a touch from Al Gharafa goalie Qasem Abdulihamed Burhan.
Mahmoud Saad Abdelhalim extended the lead to 3-1 with another field goal and Rachid struck from outside the circle in the 93rd minute to complete his brace and a 4-1 thrashing.
