Doha: Online architecture and design magazine, SCALE, has started a series of talks bringing together experts from around the world. SCALE UP, a conversation on art, design and architecture, are meant to bring the creative think tanks together from around the world to discuss topics that are pertinent to the design world.

On May 21, at 12 Noon, SCALE UP, will talk about Vernacular Architecture in Contemporary times, bringing together two architecture stalwarts from Qatar and India. The webinar will be hosted on Zoom and the the ID is 89413301004.

The first of the two panellists is Ibrahim Mohammed Jaidah, CEO and Chief Architect of Arab Engineering Bureau, Qatar, who is famous for his buildings that awoke the Qatari style in architecture. The second panellist is Prof K.T Ravindran, an Urban designer and architect who headed the Urban Design segment in School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and was also the founder and president of the Institute of Urban Designers, India.

Vernacular Architecture is defined as the type of architecture that is indigenous to a specific time and place and not replicated from elsewhere. Jaidah is a proponent of Qatari vernacular architecture and has authored many books and opened up many talks on this particular style while Prof Ravindran’s designs have always been sensitive to the place and context they exist in. The discussion is moderated by Srinivas Murthy, President, Architecture & Design Foundation India along with Sindhu Nair, the editor of SCALE.

Bringing together these two experts is SCALE magazine, which recently completed one year of its inception and has a wide readership base from Qatar, India, USA, UK, Europe, Singapore and Canada.

“In its last Zoom discussion, on May 8, SCALE brought together a few architects and designers from Qatar and India on Zoom to express their ideas of a post-Corona Virus design world. We had close to 70 participants and collaborated with the Architects Hub Qatar to bring the architect’s community close together,” Nair said.
