Doha: The Embassy of Bangladesh observed Mujibnagar Day of Bangladesh on April 17. To mark the day a meeting on the significance of Mujibnagar Day was arranged. At the beginning of the meeting, a minute of silence was held as a mark of respect to the memories of the freedom fighters. The messages from President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh were read out. Many Bangladesh community members and embassy officials participated in the meeting. During the discussion meeting, the speakers paid respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh and highlighted his contributions towards the independence. They appreciated the vital role played by the members of the Mujibnagar Government and also emphasized on the need for educating the younger generation about the history of Bangladesh. In his speech Ambassador Ashud Ahmed recalled the extraordinary role played by the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and freedom fighters in Bangladesh's emergence as an independent country. Highlighting the significance of historic Mujibnagar Day, he mentioned that the formation of Bangladesh's first government on April 17 to lead the War of Liberation in 1971 was the significant move which paved the way of gaining global support in favour of Bangladesh’s independence. He called upon expatriate Bangladesh nationals to work for development and welfare of the community as well as to make valuable contribution towards the economic development of their home country. A documentary on the life and works of Bangabandhu was also screened during the event.
