Doha: Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Hassan Al Thawadi (pictured) said that celebrating the national day is an opportunity for Qataris to celebrate the development their country has made in all fields. He stressed that the world has noticed that development which came thanks to the efforts of its loyal citizens and residents.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency to mark the national day celebrations, he said that the day is also an opportunity for institutions to celebrate their achievements, especially winning the right to host the World Cup in the Middle-East for the first time ever. He extended his congratulations to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and to the Qatari people.
He said this year’s theme “Ancestral Meadows: A Matter of Trust” pays tribute to the achievements of the previous generations, saying that Qataris today have managed to develop it even further and modernize it for the coming generations.
He said that the World Cup 2022 in Qatar is less than a year away, and will take place in the Middle-East for the first time ever to reflect the Arab and Islamic civilization, and showcase the Qatari identity.
The Secretary-General of the SC said that today, Qatar is also celebrating the successful hosting of the most popular edition of the Arab Cup. He said the competition was a golden opportunity to elevate the committee’s plans for hosting the World Cup, and gave the world a glimpse of what next year’s edition will look like.
The Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy stated that, from the beginning, the sustainability strategy that was set for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to host a distinguished tournament has set new standards for social, human, economic and environmental development, as the local market has been strengthened by providing opportunities for local companies, businessmen and human cadres. He pointed out that the eight stadiums will consume less energy by 40 percent compared to the rest of the sports facilities. The level of water consumption in the World Cup stadiums will also be lower by 40.
He also said that connecting stadiums with public transportation, such as the Doha Metro network, trams and environmentally friendly electric buses, is one of the main factors that contribute to alleviating traffic congestion and air pollution resulting from carbon emissions during the hosting of the World Cup next year.
