DOHA: The second annual general meeting of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) Qatar Chapter and it’s first anniversary celebrations were jointly held on Friday, October 9, at Mercure Grand Hotel Doha.
Sri Lankan Engineers in Qatar formed Sri Lankan Society of Engineers Qatar (SLSEQ) in the year 2009 with the objective of networking, professional development and social wellbeing of the Sri Lankan Engineers working in Qatar. Another strategic vision of the SLSEQ was to become an overseas chapter of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka which is the apex body of engineering related aspects in Sri Lanka. The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka accredited the society as their first overseas chapter in the Gulf region in 27th September 2014.
IESL Qatar chapter which is also an affiliated body of Sri Lankan embassy Qatar has conducted a number of continuing professional development (CPD) , welfare and social events and career guidance support services for the Sri Lankan Engineers living in Qatar.
At the AGM 2015, Chandralal Mendis was elected as the President while Kamil Ariff was reelected as the Secretary of the IESL Qatar Chapter.
Rohana Egodagamage the outgoing President and Tilakasiri Ekanayaka the outgoing editor addressed the AGM gathering and briefed out the previous record and future strategies of the chapter.
The event also included some entertainment events for the entire family, followed by a farewell and dinner.
