Doha: Qatar Aircraft Catering Company (QACC), the aircraft catering subsidiary of Qatar Airways Group, is set to embark on a major upgrade to enlarge the operations area and increase the meal production capacity.

“By March 2026, QACC is set to embark on a major upgrade; the QACC 2.0, a venture designed to enlarge the operations area and increase the meal production capacity up to 500,000 meals due to the rapid and steady growth of the airline,” Qatar Airways Group Annual Report 2021-2022 reveals.

Qatar Aircraft Catering Company (QACC) is an award-winning, inflight catering facility located at Hamad International Airport, the hub of Qatar Airways.

According to report, currently QACC has the capacity to produce over 175,000 meals per day in its state-of-the-art facility measuring 69,000 sqm, and growing.

“During the 2021/2022 financial year, QACC achieved our one-year sustainability target by recycling more than one million kilogrammes of plastic waste and donating more than 100,000 pieces of goods and surplus food supplies to people in need across the globe.

“The group’s catering company is working hard to decrease waste generation and improve rates of waste diversion from landfill,” it adds.

QACC’s journey to excellence has led to the recognition of the airline with the receipt of two prestigious awards for its outstanding catering services; Best Food and Beverage APEX Passenger Choice Award for the year 2022 and the Skytrax 2021 award for the World’s Best Business Class Onboard Catering. Reaching the 16 million meal productions milestones during the challenging times of the pandemic, was another great achievement in 2021, according to report.

The ambition for a greener QACC remains a high priority, hence the company continually seeks innovative methods to reduce the overall carbon footprint by applying green building standards in its new facility construction, wherever possible; installing energy efficient equipment in new state-of-the-art catering facilities, including washing systems which significantly reduce water, energy and detergent consumption and efficient refrigeration units; decreasing the usage of single use plastic; developing strong relations with local fruit and vegetable suppliers, to reduce the volume of imported goods among other measures, the report said.

The current renovations entail the installation of fully automated and sustainable industrial equipment, which will enhance product quality, improve delivery efficiency and increase production capacity.

QACC has not limited improvements to infrastructure and equipment, but has also embarked on a digitalisation strategy to enhance business productivity.

This is achieved by introducing digital solutions that automate paper-based tasks within the production facility, which will minimise potential errors caused by human factors, the report said.
