Doha: Qatar today announced eight new positive cases of coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19), taking the total number of confirmed cases to 460. Six people were also recovered from Covid19, taking the total of recovered people to 10.

This was announced by Spokesperson of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management HE Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater today at a press conference.

Following are the major points from the press conference:

Among the eight new cases, six are expatriates and the two Qataris, returning from UK and Italy, and they are all in quarantine now.

So far, 10 people have recovered from the illness, six of them Qataris and four expatriates.

Ministry of Public Health approved home quarantine as a second option for families from abroad after signing a pledge and after passing the initial examination.

In general, most of the affected cases are in stable condition, but six cases are in intensive care.

We found in Qatar two basic patterns of the spread of the virus.

The first chain of transmission was between expats, which is community spreading, and it turned out that its focus was in the area that was closed from Street 1 to 32 of the industrial area.

The second chain of transmission of the coronavirus in Qatar was among the Qataris and it is not mostly considered to be community spreading, but rather was transferred by citizens returning from some countries, especially Europe, and they were subjected to isolation.

Till now 9,460 people have been tested for Covid-19 in Qatar.
